The book begins with a short exploration of the question: What is art? Then it moves from examining paints made from the earth to looking at ready-made paints, colour mixing, different kinds of paper, ways to apply paint, drawing media, mixed media, 3-D work, clay work, casting, baskets and weaving, found objects, printing and art materials. There is a short Glossary at the end. The text is supported by clear photographs and reproductions of artwork.
