Oxford Thetha is a CAPS-aligned series aimed at teaching non-Mother Tongue speakers isiXhosa, which is the target language, so that they can communicate successfully. The series follows a translanguaging approach where the acquisition of the target language is supported by including English translations where appropriate. The foundation for the series is a communicative approach encouraging learners to:
– understand the target language when they hear it
– speak the target language in everyday situations
– read the target language
– write in the target language.
The Workbook provides:
– practice of phonics and spelling to help learners consolidate and develop their additional language skills
– accessible vocabulary activities that help learners to develop communication skills in an additional language
– language support through teaching isiXhosa language structures and grammar.
